My first job out of college was as the managing editor at a small medical publishing company in New York City. I worked alongside Steve, our associate editor. My strength was structure and rhythm; his was medical accuracy and detail. We made a good team. One day, Steve walked into my office waving some printed pages. “Deb, can you do that
thing you do, so I can check out the science?” “What thing?” I asked. “You know,” he said, “that magic you work where the writing comes in muddy and you turn it into something clear, logical, and even fun to read.” I’ve never forgotten that moment. Not just because it felt great to be seen, but because of what it taught me about leadership. We’re surrounded by people with unique strengths. As parents, friends, or leaders, one of the most
powerful things we can do is notice those strengths and say them out loud. When we do, people rise. Kids rise. They lean into what they’re good at, and their futures get brighter. It’s not magic—it’s just the natural result of being seen and valued—but it feels like it. Over the years, as I raised kids, built a business team, and worked within various communities, I kept returning to that lesson: Leadership isn’t about having a title, it’s about paying attention.
You can’t run a family or a business unless you know who you’re with and what makes them shine. And once you start validating others (“You know that thing you do? Please do that!”) you become a leader. Even if you're just leading someone to be more themselves. So today, find a reason to start a conversation: “You know that thing you do?...” You won't see it right away, but trust me: Their horizon will glow.

activity in 2026, in honor of our nation’s 250th anniversary. Participants who complete the challenge can receive a certificate from their local librarian.

The target audience is elementary-aged children and younger.
This program uses therapy dogs as reading companions for children. Often, reading for children involves overcoming fear. The dogs offer a method to help alleviate the fear associated with reading by serving as non-judgmental, attentive listeners.

Come join us as we break out our collection of board games, playing cards, and dominoes and let you and your family have at them.
Our giant versions of Connect 4, Jenga, checkers, and Kerplunk offer big gaming fun you won’t find hardly anywhere else.
Game Night is a potluck affair, so attendees are encouraged (though not required) to bring food to share so that everyone can snack while they play. The library provides soda, juice, and water for all. The games are set out for you to browse, and you’re welcome to play whichever one(s) you’d like, either with your friends and family or with other game lovers from the community. Occasionally, we’ll have a themed Game Night. Such nights will be noted on
the schedule.

Our Preschool Storytime is intended for ages 3-5. It provides active children with stories and songs based on simple concepts, repetition, and lots of movement. Storytimes give children and caregivers a chance to bond, socialize with others, and create new
relationships while building language and literacy skills. This class will be educational but most of all it will be fun. This class is hosted by WJSL.

Stop by for a morning of play-based learning just for our littles! This program will vary week-to-week as we explore art, math, science, engineering, and fine motor skills. Join us as we playfully discover the world around us!
